Locally-Made Vegan Clothing

VAUTE has developed an outerwear clothing collection, including knitwear and accessories, made from animal-free and locally sourced materials. The garments are made from 100% organically sourced fabrics, which do not contain leather, fur, wool, mohair, silk or other animal products. VAUTE creates coats from organic cotton moleskin, which it insulates with recycled Primaloft fiber – a synthetic microfiber alternative to feathers. Their hats are made from recycled plastic bottles, hand-blocked in one of USA’s few remaining hat factories. The knitwear products are created with single-thread technology, in which the sweater is knitted with one continuous string of yarn, thus leaving no residual waste. In 2013, VAUTE participated in New York Fashion Week as the first vegan fashion house.

Why you should care

Animal breeding for clothing purposes and the chemical treatment of animal products, such as leather and fur, presents several environmental and ethical issues. Vegan proponents advocate strongly against the harm done to animals. The chemicals used to treat animal products can also cause negative impacts for workers and the environment. By creating sustainable alternatives to animal skins and fur, VAUTE is deviating from traditional and unsustainable production methods.
