Parental Work-Exchange Helps to Run Schools

Maya Universe Academy is a non-profit organization focused on improving the accessibility of quality education in rural Nepal. The Maya Model utilizes the skills and time of the students’ parents in order to help run their schools. Parents commit to work at a school for two days per month, per child enrolled, allowing the school to cover the remaining costs of running the school. Maya have three schools in Nepal and are looking to expand further.

We embrace social responsibility and creative-mindfulness to educate and inspire our students and their families to build community, gain greater independence, and transform their lives.

By focusing on flexible learning styles, physical games, and board games, the students are given the opportunity to express and develop leadership skills and strategic thinking. Utilizing parents’ work contributions, both students and parents get hands-on experience in agriculture, animal husbandry, expressive arts and computer skills, which are all incorporated into the Maya Model.
